About the course
Tinnitus, from the first appointment
You finish the audiogram. Hearing is normal, or close to it. The patient is still sitting there, still distressed, and you have run out of things to say. Every audiologist knows that appointment. This course is about never having it again.
Across two days you learn to read a tinnitus presentation the way you already read a hearing loss. We go through each system involved, how it contributes, how to assess it, and how to explain what you find to the person in front of you.

Why I teach this course
I have lost count of the patients who arrived at my clinic having been told to learn to live with it. Most had already seen someone. Some had seen four or five people. They came in believing nothing could be done, and it was almost never true.
The gap is not that clinicians do not care. It is that we were taught so little about tinnitus and then sent out to manage it anyway. So the appointment ends in reassurance that helps nobody, and the patient leaves no better than when they walked in.
That is what these two days are for. What to test, what the results mean, which causes you can treat yourself, and how to explain any of it so the patient finally understands their own ears. Everything I teach is what I do in clinic every week.
You will be able to separate what is generating the tinnitus from what is driving the distress, and know which of those you can treat yourself. Tinnitus stops being the appointment you dread and becomes one you can plan.

What the course covers
How the two days work
Tinnitus is not one condition, so we do not teach it as one. We work through the systems that generate it and keep it going: the cochlea and central auditory pathways, the somatosensory input from the neck and jaw, the limbic response that makes it matter, and the attention that keeps returning to it. For each one, what it looks like in clinic and how to test for it.
Then the findings become a plan. Much of what drives tinnitus sits in things audiologists already know how to treat, and once you can recognise it you can act on it. When the answer lies outside your scope, you will recognise it and know where to send the patient.
Half-day online case clinic · about two months later
A four-hour online session where you bring your own patients, and we work through their questions and management together, so what you have learned carries straight into your real caseload.

- Identify and explain the likely causes of a patient’s tinnitus
- Take a detailed, tinnitus-specific case history
- Run a structured test battery for tinnitus assessment
- Interpret audiological and related results in a tinnitus context
- Judge when further investigation or referral is appropriate
- Spot outer and middle ear problems that can cause tinnitus, and act on them
- Counsel patients using tinnitus mechanisms and TRT principles
- Explain sound therapy and how habituation is achieved
- Train patients to use sound as a therapeutic agent
- Set maskers and free-field sound devices so patients get relief
- Explain the relationship between hearing loss and tinnitus accurately

Mini Gupta
Mini Gupta is a specialist audiologist and the founder of All Ears Hearing & Tinnitus Clinic in Melbourne, where she specialises in tinnitus, hyperacusis, misophonia and auditory processing disorders. She is certified in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy twice over, under Pawel and Margaret Jastreboff, and holds a Fellowship in Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Studies from Salus University. She trains and supervises audiologists across Australia and is a keynote speaker at the British Academy of Audiology conference in 2026.
Emily Woodmansey
Emily Woodmansey, BSc (Hons), is the founder and managing director of The Hearing Suite, an independent audiology practice with clinics across Yorkshire. She studied Audiology at the University of Manchester and worked in the NHS before moving into private practice, where she set up a tinnitus clinic built around realistic rehabilitation goals. She is hosting and organising the UK course.

Most audiologists know the feeling. A tinnitus patient sits in front of you, clearly struggling, and you are not sure what to offer beyond reassurance and a referral. We ran this course to change that.
Over two days, thirteen clinicians covered the science of tinnitus and how to treat it in clinic. The program moved from the neuroscience behind tinnitus, including central pathways and sensory gating, into history taking, assessment, differential diagnosis, somatic tinnitus and patient communication. It also covered the TMJ and its connections to the ear, with a screening method clinicians can use in their own clinics.
Between sessions, the conversation was just as valuable as the teaching. Participants talked openly about where tinnitus patients had stretched them, and found they weren’t the only ones short on training in this area. By the end of the two days, clinicians left knowing what to do differently on Monday, and convinced that audiologists should be the ones leading tinnitus treatment, not handing it off elsewhere.

TRT Certification Course with Pawel and Margaret Jastreboff
Hearing healthcare professionals travelled to Melbourne from London, Canada, Singapore and New Zealand, and from all over Australia. Thirty-four of them spent five days with Dr Pawel Jastreboff and Dr Margaret Jastreboff and left certified in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. The course ran at the Novotel Glen Waverley during Tinnitus Awareness Week.
The Jastreboffs taught every session themselves. At the centre of TRT is habituation, first of the reaction to the tinnitus and then of the perception of the sound itself, so that it stops carrying meaning and eventually stops being noticed for much of the day. Sound therapy is what makes that possible alongside counselling, and it took up a large part of the five days.
The week also covered what separates tinnitus, hyperacusis and misophonia and how to tell them apart in clinic, the neurophysiological model Pawel Jastreboff published in 1990 and the auditory pathways behind it, medical evaluation and medications, and how to set up and program combination instruments.
The same messages came back all week. Never tell a tinnitus patient that nothing can be done. Do not leave them in silence, use sound as treatment. Stop them overprotecting their ears. And one was aimed at us: Australia needs far more clinicians trained in this work.
That last point is why Mastering Tinnitus Clinical Skills exists. What came out of that week was a community of audiologists who stay in touch, talk through cases and support each other in work that can feel isolating.
We are still asked regularly about future TRT courses, and the interest has not slowed. We intend to organise another one in Australia, though we have no dates to announce yet.

Terms and refund policy
Your place
Your place is confirmed once payment has been received in full. Fees are in GBP, and a tax invoice is issued once payment is complete. Clinics sending three or more people receive 10% off each place, arranged by email before registering.
If you cancel
More than six weeks before the course, a full refund less a £50 administration fee. Between six and two weeks, a 50% refund. Within two weeks, no refund, though you are welcome to pass your place to a colleague at no charge up to three days before we start.
If we change or cancel
If we cancel, you receive a full refund. If the dates change, you can transfer or take a full refund. We confirm the Liverpool venue by August 2026, so we suggest holding off on non-refundable travel and accommodation until then.
The online session
The half-day online session runs about two months after the two days, on a date set with the group. Tell us if you cannot make it and we will try to arrange something else.
Course materials
The materials, forms and patient handouts are yours to use clinically. Add your own clinic branding and use them with your patients. They are not to be resold or shared as a training product.
Photography and filming
We take photographs and video during the course and may use them on the All Ears Hearing and The Hearing Suite websites and social media. If you would rather not appear, email contact@allearshearing.com.au beforehand or tell us on the day and we will keep you out of anything published.
Your personal information
We collect your name, contact details, professional registration and any access or dietary needs so that we can run your registration and the course. We use them for nothing else, and we share nothing beyond what the venue needs in order to cater for you. We keep records for as long as tax and accounting rules require. To ask what we hold, or to have your details removed, email contact@allearshearing.com.au.
Travel and accommodation
The fee covers the course only. Travel, accommodation and anything else you spend on the trip are yours to arrange and pay for. We confirm the venue by August 2026, so please hold off on non-refundable bookings until then. If you need a letter confirming your registration for your employer, email us and we will send one.
Attendance and your certificate
The certificate of attendance is issued once you have attended both days. If something comes up and you have to miss part of the course, tell us and we will work out what we can do.
Patient confidentiality
You are welcome to bring cases from your own clinic, both to the two days and to the online session. Remove anything that could identify a patient before you share it. What is discussed about other people’s cases stays in the room.
Recording the course
Please do not record, film or livestream any part of the course. If you want a photograph of a slide, ask us and the answer will usually be yes.
Changes to the program
We may need to adjust the content, the timings or who presents if circumstances require it. The course will still cover the ground described on this page.
Minimum numbers
The course runs subject to minimum numbers. If we do not reach them, we will tell you as early as we can and refund your fee in full.
